Full=AnhMurNAc kinase; |
|
FUNCTION: Catalyzes the specific phosphorylation of 1,6-anhydro-N-acetylmuramic acid (anhMurNAc) with the simultaneous cleavage of the 1,6-anhydro ring, generating MurNAc-6-P. Is required for the utilization of anhMurNAc either imported from the medium or derived from its own cell wall murein, and thus plays a role in cell wall recycling (By similarity).
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: ATP + 1,6-anhydro-N-acetylmuramic acid + H(2)O = ADP + N-acetylmuramic acid 6-phosphate.
PATHWAY: Amino-sugar metabolism; anhydro-N-acetylmuramic acid degradation.
PATHWAY: Cell wall biogenesis; peptidoglycan recycling.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the anhydro-N-acetylmuramic acid kinase family.
GO:0005524; Molecular function: ATP binding.
GO:0016773; Molecular function: phosphotransferase activity, alcohol group as acceptor.
GO:0006040; Biological process: amino sugar metabolic process.
GO:0009254; Biological process: peptidoglycan turnover.
