Data class Protein
Names HisD

Identifier HISX
Protein name
RecName: Full=Histidinol dehydrogenase;
Short=HDH;
EC=1.1.1.23;
Gene name hisD
FUNCTION: Catalyzes the sequential NAD-dependent oxidations of L-histidinol to L-histidinaldehyde and then to L-histidine (By similarity).
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: L-histidinol + H(2)O + 2 NAD(+) = L-histidine + 2 NADH.

case <FTGroup:1>
COFACTOR: Binds 1 zinc ion per subunit (By similarity).
end case

PATHWAY: Amino-acid biosynthesis; L-histidine biosynthesis; L-histidine from 5-phospho-alpha-D-ribose 1-diphosphate: step 9/9.

case <OC:Enterobacteriaceae>
SUBUNIT: Homodimer (By similarity).
end case

SIMILARITY: Belongs to the histidinol dehydrogenase family.

case <FTGroup:1>
end case

GO:0004399; Molecular function: histidinol dehydrogenase activity.

case <FTGroup:1>
GO:0008270; Molecular function: zinc ion binding.
end case

GO:0000105; Biological process: histidine biosynthetic process.

Plasmid encoded: in RHIME
Comments: Longer N-terminal in the second copy of RHILO; not shown in alignment and not taken into account in size range. Zinc-binding site problem in SYNY3, in the second copy of RHIME and in the third copy of RHILO; sequences not included in alignment. Divergent second copy in SYNY3; not shown in alignment and not taken into account in size range. PHOLL is a fusion between hisC and hisD. As other Enterobacteriaceae do not have such a fusion, this could be a sequencing artefact.
